Reid’s Martial Arts
Reid’s Martial Arts was founded in 1965 by
the late 10th Degree Black Belt Grandmaster Larry Reid.
The
School has always been family owned and operated. Grandmaster
Reid’s wife Linda Reid, 6Th Degree Black Belt now serves as Senior
Instructor and son Daren Reid, 5Th Degree Black Belt, as Chief
Instructor.
Reid’s Martial Arts prides itself on
using certified, knowledgeable, instructors who enjoy providing
personalized attention to every student.
The school is also home to Linda Reid’s "Never
A Victim" program for women. The non-profit
self-defense and awareness program empowers women by providing them
with proven, easy-to-remember self-defense techniques.
Reid’s
Martial Arts offers a full range of innovative self-defense programs
for adults and children. Students gain self-defense skills and
confidence while getting in shape and having fun.
Reid Family
Martial Art still teaches the original Chinese Kenpo Karate System
brought to America by Ed Parker and taught to Al and Jim Tracy in
the 50’s. We believe the stances, basic, power principles, speed
principles, techniques, and Katate taught by Professor William Chow
will give our students the best possible foundation to build their
lifelong Martial Art skills on.
Kenpo is unique
in history in two respects. It is the first eclectic martial art, 2.
Its roots stretch all the way back to 520 BC.
The fact that
Kenpo is an eclectic art has a good and bad side. The good side is
that it has no boundaries and lends itself to many forms of Martial
Arts from all over the world. Kenpo Black Belts are able to learn
and incorporate techniques from many different styles into their
Kenpo training. The bad side is that many well meaning Black Belts
have incorporated so much material from so many different systems
that the effectiveness of Kenpo is sometimes lost in the shuffle.
The essence of Kenpo is its ability to adapt to the strengths of the
individual practitioner in any given self-defense situation. This
can become lost if the foundation of art is diminished.
I hope this brief history has helped
you obtain
a
Better understanding of your art and
your school.
